Mogadishu-Ayaamaha-Russia launched an unprecedented wave of 948 drones targeting Ukraine within a 24-hour period, marking the largest aerial drone offensive since the war began and signaling a sharp escalation in Moscow’s long-range strike strategy.
Ukrainian air defense forces reported intense overnight operations as swarms of drones approached from multiple directions, overwhelming radar systems and stretching interception capabilities. Officials said a significant number of the drones were shot down, but several managed to penetrate defenses, striking energy infrastructure, logistics hubs, and urban outskirts.

The (scale) of the attack highlights a growing reliance on mass drone deployment, allowing Russia to pressure Ukraine’s air defenses while conserving more advanced missile systems. Military analysts note that such saturation tactics are designed to exhaust defensive resources and create persistent instability across multiple regions simultaneously.
Ukrainian authorities confirmed damage to critical infrastructure and warned of potential disruptions to electricity and supply chains, particularly as the country continues to manage wartime energy vulnerabilities. Emergency crews were deployed across affected areas, with assessments ongoing.
The escalation comes amid continued frontline fighting and stalled diplomatic efforts, raising concerns among international observers about a prolonged phase of intensified aerial warfare. As both sides adapt their tactics, the use of drones at this scale may redefine the operational tempo of the conflict in the months ahead.
